We all know the dangers of believing everything we see on social media. Social media is a highlight reel of everyone’s best moments, and we can be deceived into thinking a false perception is reality. But the greatest danger is not when you fool others or are fooled by others – it’s when you fool yourself. The church of Sardis began to believe in a false image of themselves based on their reputation in the community. They were deceived into thinking they were something they weren’t. Similarly, we can allow others’ perceptions of us to shape our reality and begin living a lie. Through the church of Sardis, we learn the importance of examining ourselves against God’s standards and not the world’s standards.
