Tithing is an act of worship that expresses your gratitude, faith, and love for others. A tithe – literally translated “tenth” – means to give back to God 10% of your income. By giving the first portion of your income back to God, you are showing that He comes first in your life. It is also a reminder to you that God is the supplier of everything you have.
Automate the Important
Automation trumps determination. Have you ever found yourself determined to start tithing but find that you run out of money before you give to God? When something is important, you should do it first. This is why the Bible talks about a tithe being the “first fruits” of what God has given to you. Automating your giving is a great way to ensure that you give back to God first. It eliminates the temptation to not give to God.
