Junior high students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to make a difference in Duffield, VA through a mission trip!

Meet the People of Appalachia

Duffield is a community off the Appalachian Trail in the southwestern part of Virginia. The Appalachian Mountains are renowned for their stunning natural beauty with steep wooded hills, narrow valleys, and winding streams. Despite this beauty, the people of Appalachia face significant challenges.

Communities in Appalachia fight daily against economic hardships. Many residents live below the national poverty line, contending with issues such as drug and alcohol addiction, poor health, and limited educational opportunities. These struggles have contributed to a “culture of poverty,” leading to joblessness and distressed communities.

What these communities need most is hope—hope for a better future and the assurance that change is possible. By coming together, we can help bring that hope to life, supporting the people of Appalachia in their journey towards a brighter tomorrow.

What You’ll Be Doing

Junior high students will serve the community of Duffield through clothing distribution, light yard work, homeless food distribution, and helping at nursing care facilities. Students will also participate in prayer walks and are encouraged to share the love of Jesus when the opportunity arises. Some service projects will be completed in Kingsport, TN, which is approximately 30 minutes from our lodging.

Where You’ll Be Staying

Students will stay in cozy cabins nestled in a scenic location. There are 4 cabins, each with 10 bunk beds. There is also a bathhouse with separate areas for boys and girls. The cabins where students will sleep do not have electricity, but students will have access to electricity and Wi-Fi at the church nearby.

How You’ll Get There

We’ll take a rented charter bus to Duffield, VA for the mission trip.
