Abuse

Abuse

Abuse can take many forms – physical, emotional, and sexual abuse happen to people of all ages, economic statuses, and genders. It is more common than people think. You may not even be sure if what has happened to you is considered abuse.

Abuse is an exploitation of something God designed for good. Abuse is often committed by people we are supposed to love and trust. In relationships where we are supposed to feel safe, we feel fear. The person we want most to support us and build us up only ever tears us down. An act God designed for pleasure in marriage becomes associated with disgust and shame.

If you’re a victim of abuse, know that what happened to you is not your fault. You have value and matter to God. Talk to someone about how Jesus can heal the deepest hurts and release you of anger, fear, and shame.

If you are in an emergency situation, please call 911.
