For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and
the government shall be upon his shoulder, and
his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)
The fourth and final title given to the promised
child of Isaiah 9:6 is “Prince of Peace.” This is good
news: in a world of turmoil, wars, strife, division,
enmity, hatred, hurt, pain, and sorrow, Jesus is the
Prince of Peace. He is the ruler whose reign
brings peace in the hearts of all
who trust in Him.
Earthly kings cannot be
trusted to bring perfect
righteousness, perfect
justice, and perfect
peace, but Jesus can.
There is no king like
Him. This Son, this
child born to Joseph
and Mary, is the Prince
of Peace. And one day
He will bring perfect
peace to all who trust
in Him. Revelation 21:5
paints a beautiful picture of
this peace:
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new
earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had
passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw
the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for
her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the
throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God
is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will
be his people, and God himself will be with them
as their God. He will wipe away every tear from
their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither
shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain
anymore, for the former things have passed away.’”
It almost seems too good to be true. But it is
true. No more war with sin; no more sorrow in
our hearts; no more hurt; no more pain; no more
despair; no more strife; no more enmity between
God and man. The Prince of Peace will bring all
who trust in Him into perfect communion with
God, and they will experience peace, joy, justice,
and righteousness with Him forever.
PRAYING IN LIGHT OF TODAY’S PASSAGE
Pray that God would bring peace to war-torn
regions of the world and that the
peoples who are affected by
these wars would have an
opportunity to hear about
the redemption of the
Prince of Peace.
